- I'm addicted to baby carriers. At first I just had one, a Hotsling, and it was cute and easy. Then I decided to get another one because I thought I might need a bigger size. It turns out my baby is just huge, but I didn't realize how big he was until his 6 week appointment. It turns out he weighed over 14 pounds and then it occurred to me that a sling -- in other words carrying Davy on one shoulder -- wasn't the best idea for a very large baby without good head control (yet... he's working on it). I still use the Hotslings, but only when I need a quick fix. But now I have two Hotslings, one wrap (Moby), an Ergo, and two Mei Tais (a Kozy and a BabyHawk). BabyHawks are beautiful and addicting. Plus side? I can wear Davy around the house when he's fussy and grocery shopping is really easy. No crying baby!
I have to admit though that I did not think I'd be this kind of parent. I grew up in a family that firmly believed in letting babies cry (because sometimes babies just need to cry) and spanking children. I'm still fighting my mom on things when she comes over. She doesn't understand why I need more than one carrier (well duh! Each is good for different things!), and she is convinced that Davy needs a pacifier even though she claims she doesn't think babies should use them. I'm used to her constantly suggesting that a pacifier would help, but after I caught her sneaking a pacifier into Davy's mouth when he was a week or two old, I'm more careful when she's around.
