Entry for March 18, 2007

Our master plan to transition Davy and I from the couch downstairs to the bed failed. Davy and I were fine, but even though Joe thought he was getting a lot of sleep, I am convinced that he was waking up a lot during the night. The first night was fine, but today -- the day after the second night -- Joe was exhausted after he had slept 12 hours. He didn't remember Davy crying at 5 AM (the reason Davy and I got up), so it sounds like he isn't remembering waking up, but he isn't getting good sleep either. So Davy and I are back downstairs, which isn't uncomfortable. I sleep on the couch and Davy either sleeps on me or right next to the couch, so it works out.

The crazy people who live catty-cornered from us are moving! We found out first because two barefoot girls without coats -- they couldn't have been older than 11 or 12 -- came over when they saw Joe outside today (Sunday) and asked for newspapers. We had a huge stash in the basement that we had accumulated for the dogs, so we sent the whole box. The girls couldn't carry it because it was too heavy, so Joe took it over, which also means he got to see the inside of the house. These people are nuts. They have stacked mattresses up in front of the downstairs front window and sometimes we could see the kids sliding down this huge stack of mattresses that reached over 1/2 way up the window. Their dogs run wild around the neighborhood, the woman sells candles and has open artwork sales in front of her house, and the boys skateboard in the street. This might not bother me, but we have to pay homeowners' association fees (which we hate, but anyway...) and have to abide by these stupid rules ourselves, and then these people just do whatever they want and cause general chaos. And they aren't friendly at all, which is most irritating. Joe and I think they lost their house because there hasn't been a for sale sign up lately, although this house has been for sale around 4-5 times since we moved here.
