Irish Festival & Park Concert

We had a pretty busy Sunday. First, we went to Mass at the Irish Festival. Of course, we were late. We're always late. And of course we parked the farthest we could park from the stage. We had to walk entirely across the festival to get to the Irish Mass tent. The wine tent was next to the Irish Mass tent, and that was the closest we could get. People were walking through, eating, talking on cell phones, and even tossing a beach ball around. Joe has decided that next time we'll go to the regular Mass. We couldn't hear what was going on, and when we did, we couldn't understand it. Plus it was about an hour and a half long. The up side is that it was cheap. We got in for free, then only bought food and non-alcoholic drinks. Davy and Grainne had a good time being spoiled by Grandma and Grandpa.
Sunday evening, Davy, Grainne, and I went to a concert in Sycamore Park in Pickerington with Davy's cousins, aunt, and grandparents. He had a blast, and Grainne enjoyed being spoiled... um, held. The downside was that Davy was rolling down the hill and got pretty muddy and insisted on wearing his winter boots, which were promptly covered in geese poop. Oh, and he kept knocking over the popcorn, spilling it on the ground, then eating it. YUCK! Luckily he has a strong constitution and survived without catching any weird geese diseases.

Davy's Baby Sister

Granuaile (Grainne) Ann Elizabeth was born at home on May 11, 2009 at 3:24 pm. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz, a full pound less than her brother. She was 20 inches long. Grainne is very alert, and likes to just look at things. She is laid back and only cries to eat or for diaper changes (or when a diaper change is needed).

"Look! I Grandpa!"
Davy was walking with his "cane" outside this afternoon. Suddenly he turned to me and said "Look! I Grandpa!" But then when I repeated it he said what he always does.... "No, I Davy."

Mini-Joe
We had a midwife appointment yesterday. At 8:30 PM. We took Davy because we can. He fell asleep in the car after talking up a storm. Must be his way of putting himself to sleep. He talks non-stop. "Daddy, what are you doing? Mommy, what are you doing?" "Davy riding." "Daddy riding." "Mommy driving." "Truck!" "Otis touch back." (which translated, means 'Otis jumped on my back.' Otis, my brother's dog, jumped on Davy's back Saturday evening. It made an impression and we've been hearing about it ever since.) "Otis stinks! Yuck!" This last one is purely Joe. Joe doesn't like dogs. Except Allie. And I think he likes Zoe. But that's it. So Joe gets Davy to say "Otis stinks! Yuck! Bad Otis." Davy loves to say this. Partly because Joe does, and partly because he gets a reaction.
After all this, Davy started singing something eerily similar to "people die, die, die." Complete with gun sound effects. Not sure what he was really saying. I hope I'm wrong.

So Sleepy

Davy just laid down on the carpet and went to sleep this afternoon. Usually he goes down for a nap around 1, but I guess he wanted a nap earlier. He was asleep by 12:30, completely on his own. He's getting to be such a big boy!

Legos
Davy is completely obsessed with Legos. Not the age-appropriate legos though. They have to be the small kind labeled for ages 5 and up. He plays with them all the time, and he carries around his collection in a blue Lego tub. He won't go anywhere without the tub.

Playing with Cousins
Davy and I went to Grandma Sheridan's to visit with Molly and Owen while Aunt Sarah picked up Girl Scout cookies.

Davy's New Baby
I've been looking for a doll for Davy. He has one, but I wanted to get him another since Grainne is coming. I thought about getting him a Waldorf doll, but he showed no interest in any doll that was remotely cloth or cloth-like. Plus, they are so expensive that it just isn't worth it to buy him one that he won't love.
TJ Maxx though had a little (anatomically correct) boy doll that came with a potty. It is phalate-free, a brand name, and cheap! An added bonus, although we haven't tried it, is that the doll can go in the bathtub. Davy loves his new doll and wanted to play with it right away. He really likes the potty part.
However, something very strange happens when a toddler has never had a bottle. Either he tries to apply the bottle to the baby's head....
...or he acts like it is a ketchup bottle and tries to pour the bottle's contents on the baby.
He frequently nurses his two dolls (and has Daddy and Mommy nurse them too). I love that he doesn't think bottles are normal.

New Milestones
I apologize. I am woefully behind. Davy and I were both sick right after Christmas, and we're just now starting to feel better and get back to normal.
Daddy requested that we set up a nighttime/ sleep routine for Davy last week. Since Daddy rarely asks anything of us, we decided to try it. Well, he was right. The routine has been wonderful. But primarily I think because at the same time, I stopped nursing Davy to sleep. Each night this week, he's fussed to go downstairs, watch Caillou, play legos, turn on the light, or anything to keep from going to sleep. He cries for about 5 minutes, gets worked up, then cuddles into me and goes to sleep. Since he and I share a bed, I'm right there the entire time. I do have to hold him in bed while he's fussing. Otherwise he'd climb off the bed and probably hurt himself because the room is dark and he's exhausted.
Tonight, however, he didn't cry at all. We talked about how we can do things tomorrow: nurse, watch Caillou, eat M 'n Ms, visit family (naming everyone several times... for some reason his cousins were also going to drink water.... not sure why). We talked about how Daddy went "night-night," and nursies went night-night too. He talked for a long time lying in bed with me in the dark. Then he decided to put his head on my belly. Then he blew on my belly. Lots of touches. And Grainne just kicked right back. He fell asleep like that. It was very sweet, amazingly easy, and such a relief.

An unexpected visit from Santa
After we got back from the doctor's office this afternoon, someone rang our doorbell. Twice. Then as I was investigating (I'm paranoid), the visitor knocked on the door twice. It turns out Santa was paying Davy an early visit. Davy was fascinated. This was only the second time he has seen Santa in person. Santa also brought a gift: a green fleece blanket hugged by a polar bear in a cute santa hat.
The visiting Santa was our neighbor across the street. He's older, and he's very outgoing and kind. He especially loves Davy, and enjoys "talking" to Davy whenever we are outside. Even if Davy isn't with me, our neighbor asks about him.

Things I love about Davy (at this age)
Of course, I love Davy just because. But there are some things he does that are so endearing, that I just have to share.
- He tries to give toys and food to other kids. Whether they want it or not. He takes something he likes that he found, goes up to the other child, and says "Here you go." Sometimes the other child wanted it, sometimes the other child is much younger and is confused by the whole thing.
- Davy calls other people and children by their names. If he hears their names, he uses them.
- Davy closes doors. All doors. He wants everything neat, and this includes the child gate. The child gate should be closed.
- He says "I'm sorry." Even if he didn't do anything wrong. He tripped going up the stairs the other day, and he turned and said "I'm sorry Mommy."
- Davy takes airplanes or helicopters and "flies" them. Complete with the "ummmm" sound effects.
- He asks for things. Makes life much easier.
- Davy loves his family. I mean, his WHOLE family. He loves looking at pictures of his Grandma and Grandpa Sheridan, Aunt Katie, Aunt Sarah, Uncle Jeff, Carly, Molly, and Owen. He points out who everyone is. Even Zoe.
- He pretends to talk to Grandma and Grandpa on the phone when he's playing. He likes to tell them about his day.
- Davy imitates his daddy. It is very sweet. Especially when Davy has them both wearing bowls on their heads.
