We went to Monticello (Thomas Jefferson's home) and Michie Tavern today, then drove on to Williamsburg. It was a pretty busy day. I finally reached my breaking point with one of my baby carriers. Monticello has a shuttle that takes you to from the parking lot up to the home at the top of the mountain. Well, I saw some people later that tried to bring strollers, but we were running late for our tour time (you have to sign up for a tour time in advance and then be there 1/2 an hour before the appointed time) and I didn't see how I could manage the stroller, my backpack, and Davy. So I took my backpack/diaper bag and carried Davy in the Hotsling. I was really sore at the end of the day. Mom and Mikey walked down to Jefferson's tomb, but Davy and I took the shuttle back to the car.
Mostly I followed Mikey around the house after the tour. I had been to Monticello before, so I wasn't missing anything. Mikey was really excited and asked a bunch of relevant questions on the tour, and then was running around the underground passage-ways looking at things.
We went to Michie Tavern for lunch. It was really good. Davy made a ton of noise with an empty drinking glass... it was essentially a tin cup. Grandma had to take it away from him.
Today is Davy's six month birthday, or as my family calls it, his "unbirthday." It comes from Alice in Wonderland, but as Joe points out, the movie celebrates every day that isn't your birthday as an unbirthday. My family celebrates 6 month intervals. Sure it makes no sense, but it is permanently ingrained in my family. I think it started because my father had a January birthday and the rest of us had summer birthdays, so we felt that he should get to celebrate in the summer since it birthday was right after Christmas.
