After some investigation, I have finally found the terminology to accurately describe Davy's method of locomotion. He is definitely rolling, creeping (moving forward on his stomach), and he is in the early stages of crawling. According to my sources, babies at six months usually don't have strong enough arms to support their body weight, so they creep instead. This isn't a problem for Davy. He is up on all fours easily, and he even can push ups (all his weight is on his hands and feet with his body completely off the floor). He just can't figure out how to move his arms forward. He can move his knees forward, and he can push off with his feet though. The end result can either be he moves forward leap-frog style or he pushes off too hard with his feet and rams his head into the floor. He doesn't really like the latter, for obvious reasons.
Davy tried a new food today: squash! His first vegetable. He seemed to like it.
For the first time today (to my knowledge/observation at least), Davy recognized a toy he had limited exposure to and was well out of his reach and went about getting it. Yesterday he played with a ball on the floor in his bedroom for the first time. Today when I was changing his diaper on the floor, he "creeped" (is that even a word? It makes him sound bad.) over to the basket where the ball was and tried to get it out. There were several other toys on the floor and the ball was well out of his reach and even hidden a little in the large basket. The ball is vinyl (or something similar) on the outside so it is hard to grasp, but he finally got it. He then rolled it around the room and crawled/creeped/rolled to get it and stick it in his mouth. It was really cute.
Davy is really clingy and fussy. I think he's in some teething related pain. He is easily distracted though, so when he fusses Daddy can distract him and then Davy is all smiles. So essentially he is only fussy and crying with me.
Davy really likes his walker. Until he gets tired. Today he got tired so he walked over to me in the kitchen and gave me his fussy smile so I would pick him up.
