Baby Milestones

Davy seems right on track as far as his development is concerned. But that's not really a surprise.

I've been working on getting Davy to nap in his crib. He sleeps better during the day without the constant distraction of me moving around. He doesn't mind the noise; I think he just likes being around people and being involved. Consequently, his sleep is less restful unless I'm holding him. I can't always hold him when he sleeps. I spend too much time on the couch already. He does like music, and if I put him down and turn on music, he's been calming down and going to sleep quickly. Plus he's started fussing and crying even when I hold him. To me, this makes it easier to deal with him crying when I put him down in the crib since he'd be crying either way. I don't just let him cry for long periods in his crib, but a few minutes is ok. It seems to help if I put him down before he's exhausted. I don't really want him to sleep at night in his crib though. It's much easier feeding him at night if he's sleeping with me.

Even though Davy has been taking somee naps in his crib, he still likes to sleep on me, so here's a picture of him asleep on my back. I don't plan on wearing this carrier on my back any more though. He slept just fine, but he looks really uncomfortable. I have other carriers that have headrests and should support his head better, so he'll still end up on my back.

Davy's trying to crawl. Ever since he started rolling from his tummy to his back about a week and a half ago (at least, reliably rolling over), he's been happy rolling all over the floor and working on crawling. He can push himself up and he's starting to get his knees under him. This evening, he managed to push himself up and push himself forward with his feet. He was trying to get at a book just out of his reach on the floor. He's getting really close.

He already is rolling so much that we've had to start baby-proofing. You don't know where he'll end up. He can change direction too, which adds to the unpredictability.

Davy is outgrowing his cloth diapers too. This is a little scary for me since he's now in large, which for some brands is the largest size. It looks like he's slowing down, but not stopping. Still, he's over 20 pounds at 5 months.
